Marriage and Family Therapy Graduate Program

The Psychology Department at California State University, Chico (CSUC) has more than 30 years of experience training graduate-level mental health counselors.  The MS in Psychology – Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) graduate program provides an integrated course of study that meets all educational requirements (sections 4980.37 of Assembly Bill No. 3657) for the MFT license by the state of California.  Our accredited program is designed to train highly competent, professional MFT counselors to work in a variety of community mental health settings. The counseling curriculum is competency based; skill acquisition is emphasized by a strong core of introductory laboratory courses and practica, culminating in a family practicum and/or post-practicum internship in a community-based agency. Theoretical background and training are provided in a variety of counseling approaches, including multicultural, family systems, recovery/resiliency, and post-modern models of counseling.
